In 2007, Honeoye Falls Troop 10 scout, Stefan Napp, worked with the Mendon Foundation on his Eagle Scout project. Specifically, Stefan and his team of volunteers built a trailhead, stairs and a foot trail on the south side of the Lehigh Trail to the Honeoye Creek. This path is known as the Totiakton Trail and is located between Rochester Junction and Great Bend Park.
Since that time, Mendon Foundation volunteers have maintained the Totiakton Trail over the last eighteen years. Unfortunately, earlier this year a few large trees fell and blocked the trail and broke the trailhead sign and fence.
Fast forward to last week when two BSA Troop 167 – Pittsford, NY scouts and their scout leader Dad stepped in. Aiden and Maxwell Gough are working on their Life Rank and wanted to volunteer on a local conservation project. So, they along with their dad Frank repaired the broken trailhead
sign and fence, cleared the trees that had been chain sawed by the Mendon Foundation, widened the trail by removing overhanging brush and completely cleared the view so that hikers could enjoy the scenery from the bench overlooking Honeoye Creek.
