Several Mendon Foundation volunteers stepped up in a big way for the Saturday April 17th “Pick up the Parks” event, in concert with the Monroe County Parks Department, through coordination with the Mendon Foundation.

Cindy Barben and her colleagues from the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Canandaigua, NY, Chapter cleaned up a 4.5 mile stretch of the Lehigh Valley Trail between the Mendon Youth Baseball fields and Rochester Junction.

Mike, Martha and a friend who wishes to be nameless started at Rochester Junction working their way east, while Cindy, Natalie, Charlene, Rachael, and Paige walked west. The team commenced work at 8:30 am and finished up at 12:30 pm.

Some of the team grabbed the golf cart that was waiting on West Bloomfield Road and enjoyed being able to get a ride. Above we have Natalie, Cindy, Paige, Megan, Rachael, and Charlene. Photo courtesy Cindy Barben.

Several of the volunteers met at the Barben’s house afterward to enjoy Clemenza’s Pizza and salad. The weather held out and it was a pleasant day!

I ran the Trail on Sunday after their work was done, and I can say without hesitation that the group made a spectacularly discernible difference in cleaning up the debris along the trail. Many thanks to the entire team — this is what volunteering is all about!
