An enthusiastic group of Mendon Foundation volunteers participated at the 2nd Annual Greenway Cycle Challenge on September 13, 2025. Mendon Foundation volunteers took up position at Wadsworth Junction which is the intersection of the Genesee Greenway SP and the Lehigh Valley Trail. The volunteers cheered, rang cow bells and noise makers, and had encouraging, and sometimes comical, signs encouraging the cycling participants. For those that stopped to chat, Mendon Foundation and Lehigh Valley brochures were distributed, questions answered, and words of encouragement given. The weather was perfect for the event and the trail was in excellent condition.

The Greenway Cycle Challenge was developed in 2023 as a way to bring awareness to the Genesee Valley Greenway trail system as well as provide much-needed funding to the non-profit that primarily helps support the trail: Friends of the Genesee Valley Greenway (FoGVG). The Event started in Canawaugus Park in Scottsville and had a halfway turn around at Avon Driving Park where there was a festival (20 miles round trip). This fun event invites cyclists of all skill levels to explore the beauty of the Genesee Valley Greenway State Park, while supporting its continued preservation and improvement of this trail. Whether you’re an experienced rider or new to cycling, the Greenway Cycle Challenge is a perfect opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, stay active, and connect with the community. The Genesee Greenway Trail is part of large network of area recreational trails of which the Lehigh Valley Trail interconnects with.
